Renovations to this turn of the century Swarthmore home included moving window and door openings, flipping the kitchen and eating areas to make the the kitchen area more efficient, adding a back porch that blends with the existing style of the home,turning the laundry into a mudroom, and moving the laundry to the basement.This open family space is part of a two story addition to a mid-century home in Wallingford. The room contains a living and dining space with an area for an artist's studio. Large windows give the space the feeling of a wide open tree house. The vaulted ceiling with skylights and cove lighting enhance the open feel. Stainless steel cable rail and the simple lines of the wood stove add to the contemporary style.Renovation of the kitchen in this turn of the century home included a new window, warm cherry cabinets, handmade tile, and soapstone countertops. This contemporay kitchen is part of an addition and renovation to a mid-centuty home in Wallingford. Some of the sustainable elements in this kitchen include a Richlite contertop on the peninsula, and 100% recyclable plate steel on the other counters. The floor is radiantly heated stained concrete and cork. The cabinets are rift sawn white oak veneer. Windows are placed with overhangs to maximize solar heat gain in the winter and minimize it in the summer.
